About Us
Wadham as a Church of England School
Two of the schools which preceded Wadham, Crewkerne and Ilminster Grammar Schools were Church of England schools and the school today has the same designation. We are proud of this foundation and aim to make it meaningful for today’s young people.
Our values as a school are underpinned by Christian values and are at the heart of the ethos we foster. Students attend assemblies twice each week when the approach is broadly Christian in nature whilst respecting and appreciating the beliefs of other faiths. There are occasions when the assembly takes the form of an Act of Collective Worship.
The school has close links with the parishes in Crewkerne and Ilminster as well as surrounding villages and values its links with other Churches and faith communities. The Church of England nominates Foundation members of our Governing Body. As a school, we observe the major Christian festivals and observe Christmas with both a celebration in school and an evening Carol Service.
The Diocese of Bath and Wells, local churches, individual donations and grant-awarding bodies have worked with the school to appoint a Chaplain who contributes to the spiritual life of the school and provides pastoral support.
