Yeovil College Delivered Careers Information for our Students
|
|
As part of National Careers Week we welcomed the Yeovil College Team in to speak to the whole school about Post-16 options and in particular, the variety of technical opportunities for students at this level.
Each Year Group heard relevant information about the choices available once GCSE studies are completed.
It was an extremely useful session for all of our pupils to help them make the best of their time at school with their future career path in mind.

Our outstanding Year 10 footy team remain unbeaten this season in all competitions. Last night they were victorious against local rivals, Stanchester Academy. Despite going down 2-1, the team showed great resilience to pull it back for a 3-2 win. Player of the match- Harry T.
Special mention to Riley Z for his debut for the school.

Poppy Hawker - International Sporting Superstar!
|
|
From the 7th – 19th February, Poppy Hawker (10PAE) represented Somerset County Cricket U15 girls’ squad at a tournament in Sri Lanka.
No stranger to the game, Poppy’s career has blossomed since she started at age 5, going on to play for Crewkerne Cricket Club, and more recently, Ilminster Cricket Club.
Poppy was selected to represent Somerset 4 years ago and has been reselected every year since.
She currently plays in teams for Ilminster Youth, Bridgwater Women and Somerset U15s.
One of only 14 girls selected by Somerset County Cricket Club for the tour, this image shows Poppy as the winning Captain on day 2 of the tournament alongside her counterpart from the hosting team.
Well done, Poppy, on this fantastic achievement – we’re looking forward to where your skill and love of cricket will take you next!

Bishop Michael’s visit to Wadham School – 11.03.24
|
|
We were delighted to welcome Bishop Michael, Rev. Jo Stobart, Rev. Stephen Gray and members of our Governing Body to the school recently.
Our guests were met by members of the Student Council, with Bishop Michael leading a Blessing for the school outside by ‘the Gift’ – a sculpture that pays tribute to our Church of England status.
Lunch followed, hosted by the students, providing them with a great opportunity for informal discussion. Afterwards, Bishop Michael visited a Year 9 Beliefs and World Views lesson, where the second half was spent with students (including 6th Form!) grilling him on a range of questions like, “Do you think we should listen to our conscience?” “Which do you think gives a better understanding of the world; religion or science?” and “Do you think deontological or teleological ethics are better?”
Well done and thank you to Mr Tustin and all the students involved for arranging and facilitating such a welcome and well-received visit.

Year 8 Legoland Trip - 19.03.24
|
|
Hot off the press! There were plenty of tired faces in lessons last week following an exciting day out at Legoland Windsor.
The rain held off (for the most part) making for an enjoyable time around the theme park – one student racking up 30,000 steps!
Whether you are a fan of the roller coaster, the water rides or the pirate ship, there was something for everyone.
A massive thank you to Mr Allington for organising, along with the team of staff volunteers that helped make the day happen.
